What Reinforcement Does a Commercial Slab Need?

It depends on what the slab has to carry and what it connects to. Dowels tie new sections to old and prevent differential settlement between them. Woven wire mesh is a cost-effective choice for many slabs, controlling the cracks that form from drying shrinkage and thermal expansion. Rebar helps concrete withstand bending and pulling forces. Fiber reinforcement improves resistance to plastic shrinkage cracking, impact and abrasion. Crown Paving plans and installs reinforcement to engineering specifications rather than to a default.

When Should You Use Concrete Instead of Asphalt?

On the elements that have to hold an exact shape and grade. In accessible design, concrete carries the structural pieces: ramps, accessible pathways and sidewalks, parking pads, and the transitions between surfaces. Asphalt carries the large areas, drive lanes and extended pathways.
